Vanity Fair

I had the honor of attending Vanity Fair's New Establishment Summit in San Francisco this week and it far exceeded my expectations. The panels included talks with former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, California Attorney General Kamala Harris, Katie Couric, Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter, director Judd Apatow, Orange Is The New Black creator Jengi Kohan, Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, Ariel Investments president Mellody Hobson, U.S. Senator Rand Paul, Apple's senior vice president of design Jonathan Ive, and many many more.

WIE Women

When developing a business, as well as in life, it's vital to keep company with positive people  who will support you. The benefits of surrounding yourself with like-minded others can not be stated highly enough, and one way to find those people is to network in appropriate circles.

Excited to be a part of the WIE Network event!

Excited to be a part of the WIE Network event!

I recently attended an empowering event by the WIE (Women, Inspiration and Enterprise) Network and was inspired beyond belief. Held in the Dolce Vita Showroom in the Puck Building in NoLita, the atmosphere was both fashionable and fascinating, and filled with infectious energy.  Hearing so many accomplished women speak on various topics was electric, engaging and encouraging.

It is also important to become a voracious reader as this fosters your professional development. If reading The Wall Street Journal was not part of my daily routine, I would not have learned of the symposium. Sometimes we only read the "relevant" publications affiliated with our industry, but it's important to understand what's going on in the rest of the world and in other industries, and consuming business publications sharpens your acumen. (The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and The New York Times should be your go-to resources in addition to your trade publications.)

Much like you have to put in the time in the gym–or whatever your activity–for optimal health and fitness results, you also have to put in the time networking and reading for optimal business growth.

Tom Ford, the other TF.

I'm not one to need an excuse to play dress up with expensive accessories, so when I received an invite to attend Bergdorf Goodman's event celebrating Tom Ford's handbag boutique at the iconic store, I knew I wasn't going to miss it.

Being inside Bergdorf Goodman is an event in and of itself with all it's beauty and awe-inspiring clothes, so experiencing Tom Ford handbags added to my joy.

Tall T takes tennis!

What a day today was.  Up at 5:30 to write for a few hours, followed by an MRI for my knee (NOT fun), a bit of work, a punitive workout, and a trip to Queens to watch the US Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Putting the work in at the gym.  Squeezed and lifted to complete muscle exhaustion.

The tennis match was by far the best part of my day. As a guest of Ultramar Travel and Emirates Airlines, I watched Roger Federer beat Marinko Matosevic and Serena Williams dominate over Taylor Townsend from the comfort of Emirates's beautiful suite.
